In the current political climate wherein the future of Women's Reproductive Rights is truly uncertain I have decided to at once call our collective attention to issues of female reproductive, psychologic and social health, as well as pay tribute to an instrument which some members of society may not recognize and others like myself are very familiar with--the vaginal speculum. As an obstetrician-gynecologist, for me this is a celebration of the quotidien. In our fast paced, financially driven, computer run, genome savvy world, it is fascinating to me the extent to which medical professionals are still reliant upon a few ancient very successful inventions. How wondrous that we have at our ready disposal the means to look within the vagina. This is of course a privilege. This is why my specula---drawn and painted from various angles, at times dangling from strings, ask permission; this is why they speak.

100% of the artist's proceeds from this show will be donated to Transition House, a not-for-profit Cambridge based organization which provides services and housing for women and children victims of domestic violence.
