-UBANTU
-QUARTET OF HAPPINESS

UBUNTU is a jazz/new-music collective with an emphasis on sharing and collaboration. The band includes: Evan Mazunik on piano, prepared piano, accordion and other keyboards; Alex Foote on guitars and digital effects; Rick Stone on alto, tenor saxophone and clarinet; J. Frederick on drums, laptop and electronics; and Jay Foote on acoustic and electric basses and sampler. In addition to being virtuosic improvisers, all five members of UBUNTU are distinct and accomplished composers. The aim of the ensemble is to play original music with soul and create an awareness of the moment through a blend of imaginative songwriting and spontaneous improvisations.
UBUNTU has performed in Boston, New York City, and Northern New Jersey for fans of improvised music. The ensemble strives to play original music that is pleasing to the ear, yet challenges even the most educated listeners.

The Quartet of Happiness

The Quartet of Happiness was formed in the spring of 2003 by saxophonists Rick Stone and Kelly Roberge. Along with Stone and Roberge the group includes bassist Kendall Eddy and drummer Austin McMahon. The main focus of this ensemble is to perform original compositions written in a performance art/theatrical style. The members of the quartet draw from a wide range of musical backgrounds and styles, including jazz, rhythm and blues, rock, folk, and classical music. Another objective of the group is to set up a series of concerts/clinics at public schools and colleges to teach role-playing, movement, and improvisation through music.
