3play+ returns to the Zeitgeist with its unique brand of space-jazz, where freedom and interplay rule. Tonight, in a very special performance, 3play will be joined by sax great George Garzone!! We will also feature two other outstanding guests, Phil Grenadier and Marcello Pellitteri.
Phil and Marcello will be joined by 3play regulars Josh Rosen, piano, and Lello Molinari, bass, for an evening of free improvisation, original compositions, and deconstructed standards.
A powerhouse improvisational master, George Garzone has appeared on over 20 recordings. He’s a founding member of the amazing improvisational trio "The Fringe," a band that has been playing the best free jazz on the planet since 1972! Garzone’s credits include touring or recording with Danilo Perez, Joe Lovano, Jack DeJohnette, Kenny Barron, John Pattitucci, Bill Stewart, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Tom Harrell, Lenny White, Marvin "Smitty" Smith, Gary Peacock, Dave Holland, and Dave Liebman, and countless others.
A versatile, in-demand virtuoso, drummer Marcello Pellitteri is an amazing improviser, with remarkable ears and instantaneous response. He has performed worldwide with a long list of musical greats including John Scofield, Pat Metheny, Kenny Barron, Joe Henderson, Jon Hendricks, Jacky Terrasson and Wynton Marsalis. Pellitteri’s recording career includes work with John Abercrombie, George Garzone, Eddie Gomez, Dave Liebman, Danilo Perez, and Miroslav Vitous, among many others.
Phil, known for his “luminous free-flowing constructs”, has a unique trumpet style which merges classic jazz influences with avant-garde musings. His openness and great ears make for a perfect 3play match. Some of his credits include performances and recordings with Chris Potter, Freddie Hubbard, and Kurt Rosenwinkel.
