3play+ returns to the Zeitgeist with its unique brand of space-jazz, where freedom and interplay rule. Tonight we are proud to feature two outstanding guests, Phil Grenadier and Marcello Pellitteri.
A versatile, in-demand virtuoso, Marcello is an amazing improviser, with remarkable ears and instantaneous response. He has performed worldwide with a long list of musical greats including John Scofield, Pat Metheny, Kenny Barron, Joe Henderson, Jon Hendricks, Jacky Terrasson and Wynton Marsalis. Pellitteri’s recording career includes work with John Abercrombie, George Garzone, Eddie Gomez, Dave Liebman, Danilo Perez, and Miroslav Vitous, among many others.
Phil, known for his “luminous free-flowing constructs”, has a unique trumpet style which merges classic jazz influences with avant-garde musings. His openness and great ears make for a perfect 3play match. Some of his credits include performances and recordings with Chris Potter, Freddie Hubbard, and Kurt Rosenwinkel.
Phil and Marcello will be joined by 3play regulars Josh Rosen, piano, and Lello Molinari, bass, for an evening of free improvisation, original compositions, deconstructed standards and the occasional cover tune.
