howard fishman

howard fishman, bandleader, guitarist and songwriter, began his career on the streets of new orleans and in the subways of new york before making his debut at the algonquin oak room in 1999. he has since headlined in major venues both in the states and abroad, including: the steppenwolf theater, the blue note, njpac, massmoca, the pasadena playhouse, the bottom line, le petit journal, and joe's pub. a connecticut native, he spent his musically formative years in new orleans. the all-music guide has called him "an important force in creative music," and the new york times has written that his work "transcends time and idiom." fishman has been a featured guest on npr's fresh air with terry gross, world cafe with david dye, on the leonard lopate show and soundcheck with john schaefer. he maintains a full-time touring schedule and has recorded five critically acclaimed cds for his own monkey farm label. his latest, "look at all this!” was produced by grammy-winner rob fraboni (bob dylan, keith richards, the band). fishman’s always eclectic sound and visceral, explosive live shows are becoming legendary. his band includes violinist mazz swift, bassist ian riggs and kevin louis on trumpet.
fishman's stop at the zeitgeist is part of his band's "small rooms tour," designed to avoid the trappings and distractions of larger venues and to bring performers and audience together for a visceral and intimate mutually shared experience.
