be3: soul jazz, reggae, poetry

matt jenson - hammond organ
morris acevedo - guitar
dave cowan - drums

Be3 got its start in Boston when organist Matt Jenson met guitarist Morris Acevedo while they were both in school (Berklee and New England Conservatory respectively). Back then the sound was purely in the tradition of the mainstream organ trio greats but now things are quite different. With the addition of drummer Dave "The Young Professor" Cowan and years of collective development by all, the sound includes past vibes of the jazz organ trio tradition but immediately travels into a unique universe of neo-soul, roots reggae, dub and Latin styles. Matt now teaches an entire course on Bob Marley at Berklee College of Music and will be dropping in electronic synth textures and a bit of melodica over the grooves. Morris is founder of The New England Guitar Workshop (in Marblehead, MA) and continues to infuse his sensitive jazz outlook with agressive rock influenced licks. Dave also teaches at Berklee and brings pure funk and rock to the Be3 table. Special guest Alex Alvear (leader of the poplular Latin bands Mango Blue and Manguito) will join the group on Baby Bass for the second set. The group will be playing tunes from Earth Wind and Fire, Ernest Ranglin, Ahmad Jamal, Jimmy Smith, Jimmy Cliff, a few of Matt's originals and ?!?!?!?...all with an Irie Vibe!
