philippe lejeune is coming to zeitgeist gallery again with his great skills performing boogie woogie, jazz and blues mixture to the piano.
french pianist philippe is a perfect example of blending boogie woogie jazz and blues which was an especially important strain in the jazz tradition. the young pianist attended a 1968 concert by master boogie-woogie and blues pianist memphis slim, and immediately began adding to his classical efforts, teaching himself the blues, scouring local record shops for recordings by boogie-woogie greats. his repertoire ranges from classic barrelhouseboogie-woogie piano to duke ellington and horace silver tunes.
philippe will be joined on this performance by two great boston musicians, herman hampton - acoustic bass and stanley c. swann iii � drums to bring this great sound to you.
