VIBRANT CONTEMPORARY - FANTASY LANDSCAPES
by Maren Tober

"NEW WORKS", solo show by German artist Maren Tober, new oil paintings, some digital images and one installation piece.

August 30 - September 11, 2005
Viewing hours: Tuesday-Sunday 1-7pm

OPENING RECEPTION:
Saturday, September 3, 2005
3-6pm; live-music, poetry reading, snacks and refreshments provided (program flyer on request)

Maren Tober-extraordinary artist, asylee, formerly homeless, married to Afro-Cuban artist Nelson Da Costa, is displaying the fruits of one year creative activity in her new studio in South Boston. Her flat and vivid, carefully stroken cubist paintings are the main attraction in this showing. Beautifully composed, harmonical arranged shapes and hues are converting the once virgin canvas into a vibrant & positive energyloaden piece of art. A repetitive symbol is the sun, fountain of life, energy, joy, and happiness. Tober, an emerging self-taught artist grew up in East-Berlin, Germany and arrived in the US about 2 years ago in support of her husband. Since then she has been creating, promoting, exhibiting and selling in a pace unknown to others. The joy, need and obsession of art making are obvious as the artist's mind seems to overfloate with images and ideas in need of liberation.

3play+ Phil Grenadier

Phil Grenadier, trumpet
Josh Rosen, piano
Lello Molinari, bass
Dave Fox, drums

3play+ returns to the Zeitgeist with its unique brand of space-jazz, where freedom and interplay rule. Tonight we welcome back special guest Phil Grenadier and his distinct trumpet sound. We also look forward to initiating adventurous drummer Dave Fox into the 3play tribe!

Phil, known for his “luminous free-flowing constructs”, has a unique trumpet style which merges classic jazz influences with avant-garde musings. His openness and great ears make for a perfect 3play match. Some of his credits include performances with Chris Potter, Freddie Hubbard, and Kurt Rosenwinkel.

Phil and Dave will be joined by 3play regulars Josh Rosen, piano, and Lello Molinari, bass, for an evening of free improvisation, original compositions, deconstructed standards and the occasional cover tune.
