True Crime & Warped Minds ~ Come and Trip the Light Forensic!

For the first time ever True Crime Experts and Enthusiasts get together and talk turkey about the world’s most heinous crimes and the criminals that perpetrated them.

This multimedia show is like CSI turned upsidedown! It includes rare video footage, live presentations, and rare artifacts, evidence, and serial killer artwork that will be on display for examination and insight. Every show will feature different special guests from the true crime world who will take part in a forum discussion that will enthrall and disgust, and it will all be broadcast live on the internet for ‘Three Ring Radio’.

Nothing is too taboo for these folks, they have all been de-sensitized by years of research and experience. See a live murder attempt caught on video— by the victim! Different guests in each city will explore the gruesome details of the crimes that they have studied, prosecuted, survived, or been involved with the perpetrators. Find out the truth, draw your own conclusions, and hear the real facts for the first time! Forget the narrow reports from the newspapers— These stories prove truth is stranger than fiction!

The event is hosted by Three Ring Radio barker Shane Bugbee (www.threeringradio.com) and includes his wife, horror writer Amy Bugbee (www.whoreofhorror.com). Other guests include Joe Hiles, founder of the informative website ‘Serial Killer Central’ (www.skcentral.com), and artist
Doug Mesner. Several true crime filmmakers will screen movies, including ‘H.H. Holmes: America’s First Serial Killer’, and a rare collection of artifacts will be on display. Be warned, some of the images presented here will follow you to the grave.

THE LOW COUNTRY MESSIAHS
STOCKHOLM SYNDROME

Spend a vibrant, ethereal autumn evening enjoying an
eclectic line up featuring Portland, Maine’s slo-core
giants Seekonk, as they perform material off of their
upcoming sophomore LP. Comparisons to GY!BE and Low
aside, see why they have labels on both sides of the
pond clamoring to put out their next record.

Making their Cambridge debut, Lowell, MA duo the Low
Country Messiahs bring a slow burn of ramshackle,
multi-octave singing, psych-drenched slide guitar and
eerie sonics married to deep delta blues and dark,
haunting acapella spirituals. Imagine Memphis Minnie
and Charley Patton on a double-date with Flannery
O’Connor and John Brown, while Jason Spaceman
chaperones a baleful trip past scarecrow preacher
revivalists under the tent-show’s hepatitis-yellow
lights. Featuring Rob Hamilton, ex-Green Magnet
School. Soon to be featured in “No Depression”
magazine. Not to be
missed! (www.lowcountrymessiahs.com)

Opening the night and marking their 2nd Zeitgeist
appearance, local free/freak jazzcore
improvisationalists (dear old)Stockholm Syndrome will
alight the senses with the unique wall of sound
created when a processed Theremin bounces off of Ennio
Morricone-inflected guitar, white noise, and lap-steel
twang, then careens into modern Dutch-style free
drumming. Neat-o!

JORRIT DYJKSTRA/JOHN HOLLENBECK

jorrit dijkstra - alto sax, lyricon, analog electronics
john hollenbeck - drums, percussion, toys

John Hollenbeck and Jorrit Dijkstra have been playing duets on and off since 1998. They investigate the minuscule details within the sonic palette of their instruments by “zooming in” to a whole new world of sonic textures. With the help of some analog electronics, they place their sounds under an imaginary microscope, to orchestrate the overtones, micro-beats, wind flows, clicking of the pads, impact of the stick on the drumhead, and subtone effects, without losing their strong sense of melody and groove. They also share an interest in improvising with multiple-tempo layerings, melodic cells, cut and paste methods, extended techniques and integrating uncommon (analog) instruments. Their music shows influences from Ornette Coleman, Steve Lacy, György Ligeti, and Conlon Nancarrow, as well as minimalists like Morton Feldman, Ryoji Ikeda, Brian Eno and the Clicks and Cuts movement.

Julie Doiron began her career in music in 1990 at the age of 18 in Moncton, New Brunswick Canada playing bass in Eric’s Trip, a folky yet psychedelic band that was to become the undisputed underground darling of Canadian Music. Eric’s Trip were the first of many maritime Canadians signed to Sub Pop and found international recognition releasing several albums and touring widely. Following 1996’s Purple Blue, Eric’s Trip announced their breakup and Julie Doiron embarked on her solo career, first releasing songs as “Broken Girl” but then under her own name. Since then she has worked with a veritable Who’s Who list of independent rock giants, including Dave Shouse (Grifters), Howe Gelb (Giant Sand) and Tragically Hip frontman Gord Downie, to name a few. “Fellow Canadian songwriter Leonard Cohen once titled an album Songs from a Room. Montreal-based Julie Doiron apparently took up residence there and removed whatever furniture was left behind.” - Rob O’Connor, Rolling Stone juliedoiron.com

Lo Fine is a band dedicated to the difficult task of performing delicate rock-based music, committed to the notion that there’s a place for popular music that values the sublime and restrained over the raw and showy. It’s an approach that puts Lo Fine in league not only with the Scud Mountain Boys but with such acts as Lambchop, Vic Chesnutt, and Boston’s own Willard Grant Conspiracy.” (Sean Glennon, Boston Globe) lofine.com

THE BURTON GREENE/ROY CAMPBELL QUARTET
Burton Greene – piano (Mark Dresser)
Roy Campbell – trumpet (William Parker)
Laurence Cook - drums (Moondoc, Thurston Moore)
Adam Lane – bass (Tom Waits)

http://www.burtongreene.com

“BURTON GREENE ranks as one of the seasoned survivors in creative improvised
music. Like a handful of his ESP (Records) peers he’s still at it after all
these years, plugging away at his craft and creating chameleonic music along
the way… Greene sounds great as well, foraging over the finely tuned
ivories with a self-assurance and acuity ideally suited to the auspicious
surroundings.”
-Derek Taylor, All About Jazz.

From review of CIMP duo recording with bassist Mark Dresser: “Peace Beyond
Conflict: “Burton has been on the avant improvised scene since it’s
beginnings in the early ‘60’s. His music is to be found on more than 40
recordings.

ROY CAMPBELL has also been active many years and is easily one of the most
sought after trumpet players of the downtown New York scene. His own
Pyramid Trio with bassist William Parker tours and records extensively in
the US and Europe.

“Trumpeter ROY CAMPBELL’S approach is to swallow all musical concepts,
converting ‘world music’ into one music. His playing can emanate pure
improvisation, as with the quartet Other Dimensions in Music, and the
trumpeter can also maintain that improvisational touch in the large band of
William Parker. Campbell’s trumpet comes with the lyricism of Freddie
Hubbard, the freedom of Albert Ayler, and the worldliness of Don Cherry. ” ~
Mark Corroto, “All About Jazz”

Bassist, composer ADAM LANE(33) is the youngest player and most recent
welcome addition to the quartet. Combining influences from Duke Ellington,
Karlheinz Stockhausen, and Melt Banana, Adam Lane stretches the terms
“jazz” and “chamber Music” beyond convention. His blend of music and
performance art takes listeners on a meticulously orchestrated joyride, with
horns, strings, electronics, spoken word, etc. As a composer he has been
recognized by critics world wide as “innovative” (Signal to Noise) and
“forward thinking,” (Jazziz) and as a player he has contributed to important
new recordings by artists such as John Tchicai and Tom Waits.

LAURENCE COOK studied painting at the Museum School of Fine Arts in Boston
and later learned to play piano, vibraphone, and drums. He has been a major
figure in the jazz avant-garde since the 1960’s on twenty-two recordings,
including Revenge, and Dual Unity with Paul Bley; Skillfullnes with Alan
Silva,Ritti with Joe Morris; “Fuzzagainst Junk” from Vision 1997 Festival
with Thurston Moore; Triplet and Fire in the Valley with Jemeel Moondoc;
Divine Mad Love with Sabir Mateen; November 1981, Thoughts, and Son of
Sisyphus with Bill Dixon. He has worked with Sam Rivers, Alan Silva, The
Brecker Brothers, Robin Kenyatta, Mark Whitecage, and Barre Phillips among
many others.

JAAP BLONK - voice and electronics
JORRIT DIJKSTRA - alto saxophone, lyricon, and electronics

On Monday, November 15th, world-renowned Dutch composer/voice performer/sound poet Jaap Blonk will join Boston-based saxophonist/composer Jorrit Dijkstra in performance at the Zeitgeist Gallery in Cambridge. Blonk and Dijkstra will each perform a solo set before coming together as a duo to explore various permutations of acoustic and electronic improvisation. They met as members of the acclaimed Dutch improvised music scene, and have collaborated on various projects over the last several years. This concert is presented with support from The Netherlands’ Gaudeamus Foundation.

Jaap Blonk explores the fertile creative ground between poetry and music in the Dada vein, blending those idioms with performance art, improvisation and a constant search for new sound combinations that still exist within the semantics of language. Born in Woerden, Holland in 1953, Blonk has performed across Europe, as well as in the U.S., Canada, Indonesia, South Africa and Latin America. Along with his solo work, he has also collaborated with Paul Lytton, Mats Gustafsson, Michael Zerang, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Melvyn Poore, Paul Dutton, Nicolas Collins, Carola Bauckholt, the Netherlands Wind Ensemble and the Ebony Band. He is also the founder of the 15-piece orchestra SPLINKS, the avant-rock trio BRAAXTAAL, and the Kontrans record label. The newest development of his extensive career is his experimentation with electronics, primarily sampling and processing his own voice. More information is available at http://www.jaapblonk.com

Jorrit Dijkstra
A product of the same vital music tradition that produced European free music icons like Misha Mengelberg, Han Bennink and Willem Breuker, Dutch-born saxophonist/composer Jorrit Dijkstra is a recipient of a Fulbright grant and the prestigious Podium Prize from the Dutch Jazz Foundation. His long list of high-profile collaborators includes Gerry Hemingway, John Butcher, Mat Maneri, Marty Ehrlich, Jim Black, Kenny Wheeler among many others, and he has recorded as a leader on the Trytone, Songlines and BVHaast labels. Since 2002, Dijkstra has lived in Boston, when he earned a master’s degree from New England Conservatory, though he continues to also lead and perform in a variety of world-touring ensembles based in Amsterdam, Chicago, and Vancouver. “A conversation among three musicians with different backgrounds,United States, Bulgaria and Peru; but with a common ground: Jazz”

I am a Peruvian born musician living in the U.S. for over a decade now. Throughout these years I have cultivated a deep passion for jazz for its “raw force” where the musicians could channel their true feelings in freedom and express them in beauty, beyond the reason … being that way able to connect
with the listener who resonates and identifies with those feelings.

Greg Davis is a musician based in Chicago. As an undergraduate at DePaul University in Chicago, Greg Davis studied classical and jazz guitar alongside composition and jazz studies. In 1997, he started his own label, Autumn Records, in order to put out his music and that of others. Several CDR releases later, Autumn Records relocated to Boston in 1999. At this time Greg was attending the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where he received his master’s degree in composition in June 2001. Greg was an active performer in the Boston area, playing many shows by himself and with Parallel, before returning to Chicago in 2002. As Bob Mehr wrote in the Chicago Reader: “He augments his signature symphony of gently plucked acoustic guitar and natural sounds—water seems to be a favorite theme—with touches of brass, woodwind, and pedal steel and even takes a couple rare lead vocal turns….” Beginning to work with an ensemble, Davis toured North America in spring 2004 playing material from the Curling Pond Woods album as part of Greg Davis (Group). A new piano piece by Davis called “Emptying” premiered at the Summer Institute for Contemporary Piano Performance at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, MA.

Mysterious mutant offspring of Bevan Smith’s Aspen, Signer crafts dub-replicant grooves. Signer grafts Aspen’s distinctive spatial possibilities and organic textures onto the DNA blueprint of the Basic Channel Berlin techno-dub sound. Smith’s alter ego allows him to add more cogent rhythm patterns to the Aspen sound. The music is deep; bass-heavy inputs fed through shifting textures. Smith describes the sound as ‘experiments in the movement of ambient music’. Perhaps this is the sound that movement makes in dreams. Effortless, static free flights through physical locations and emotive scapes.

Recording at home with a guitar, bass, keyboard, and 8-track (the drum sounds are all unbelievably created with his mouth), Ariel Pink blends Lite FM and warped lo-fi pop into something beautiful and confusing, yet highly addictive. After years of recording in relative seclusion in the hills of Los Angeles, Ariel Pink (the first non-Animal Collective member on the Paw Tracks roster) makes his official Paw Tracks debut with “The Doldrums”. Originally a handmade CD-R release a couple years back, “The Doldrums” by Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti was discovered by the Animal Collective during one of their west coast tours and became an immediate favorite.

Brian Michael Roff & the Deer
Raymond Morin
Jeffrey Simmons and the Symptoms.

Brian Michael Roff performs songs that appear upon first listen to be merely sketches of situations and common emotions, but further examination reveals his work as the middle-class koans of a sharp-eyed social observer. Think Randy Newman burning down the Barnes & Noble rather than the cornfield and you’re getting close. The Deer, led by Jim Reynolds on lead guitar and banjo, throws gasoline on the fire.

Raymond Morin writes mysterious songs that read something like a Flannery O’Conner story shattered into a fragmentary Cummings poem, left for you to reassemble. His unique voice is backed by fingerpicked guitar reminiscent of British folksters like Bert Jansch and John Renbourn.

Jeffrey Simmons & the Symptoms draw from a deep well of post-Watergate rock n roll stylings and general sense of fagged-out teenage ennui…in Symptoms land, it’s always Miller Time, Gram Parsons is on the dollar bill, and Alex Chilton’s on the twenty.
