The Dan Tepfer Trio returns to the Zeitgeist after a two-month hiatus, with an all-new program that promises to stimulate both the intellect and the heart. Never afraid of taking risks, and always willing to challenge each other before the music becomes too comfortable, the piano, bass and drums of this trio will go anywhere their explosive energy takes them. Yet they also play so softly at times that the audience has to lean in to hear… revealing a rare mix of exuberance and introspection that allows the Dan Tepfer Trio to make music out of even the most complex rhythmic and harmonic explorations.

ANDY FRIEDMAN: THE NEW YORKER magazine calls Friedman “a master of the slide projector, not the slide guitar. . . elevating the interstitial ramblings of a wayward folk musician into an art form.” Poised in music clubs and roadhouse bars, Friedman brings a refreshing, live, poetic forum to the visual arts. Alone on stage, the twenty-nine-year-old Brooklyn-based artist accompanies projections of his pencil drawings and Polaroid photographs with a combined monologue and reading he calls “an introspective ramble.”

Micah Blue Smaldone - After a youth spent hopping freights with Jimmie Rodgers, Micah Blue Smaldone hopped one that landed him in Maine in 2004. Time travel’s errors are our blessing.

CAT SHOW SNAPSHOTS

adam schneit - tenor / alto saxophones

Cat Show Snapshots is a new assemblage of improvisers with a commitment to interweaving melodic lines and textures in an exploratory but accessible (and subtle) way. Featuring compositions by saxophonist Adam Schneit that range from “free” to rock-like melodies, in addition to covers of the Keith Jarrett American Quartet and the Velvet Undergound, the band is most concerned with using simple materials as the basis for uplifting improvisations. “I like the analogy of a snapshot,” says Schneit, who admits the name was just a few words he saw together on the internet. “Something that conveys what’s really true, instantaneously and with a certain economy. And I like cats. They’re cute.”
