“The designs are such that the eye travels over them with ease and they are appeasing to the peripheral vision. They do not necessarily catch the eye. They are also percieived with minimal resistance so that one sees shapes and coors before the subject.”

“WHIMSY”
This twisted cabaret showcases the community’s most marginalized artists. Often having ten or fifteen performers a night, it has included work from Junior Science, Markus Nechay, Jonathan VIncent, The Yoists, Doktor Selenium & Madame Margo, Kuma Lisa, Lucrecia’s Daggers, and all manner of others. In a single night it would not be unusual to experience goth rockabilly, documentaries about uncondoned carnal pleasures, celtic harp, audience participatory experimentation, and raw-meat centered performance art. The Outest of the Out.

Cremona’s songs chart the distance between hinterlands of noirish solitude and the clearings where love’s redemptive power is revealed. Cremona brings an artist’s sensibility to “Rain”, his promising debut CD. He plays guitar, bass, and sings.

-Vintage Film Screenings in Glorious 16mm and 8mm-
3rd Wednesdays @ the Zeitgeist Gallery in Inman Square
Next Program: Assassins of Youth (1937)

Reefer Madness was one of the more popular Zampano screenings last year, so we’ll follow up this month with a sister film from the same era. Assassins of Youth took its title and much of its over-the-top drug scare rhetoric from the pen of prohibition moralist Harry Anslinger, who described the scourge of cannabis potentially destroying a rising generation of fresh-faced young Americans. One Production Code reviewer of the film commented, “In my opinion, this is a tawdry, poorly done feature which should not be shown on any screen. It is the worst picture I have seen since I have been on Code work. Moral value, none,; Direction, poor; Acting, terrible.” Nevertheless, we will disgrace the Zeitgeist Gallery and our immediate community by screening this film in delirious 16mm, along with a cartoon short from the period.
